Character Based Leadership
True civilization expect and require men to be gentlemen, and grow to be leaders in their homes To create a strong traditional relationship one must lead by example. A good leader must knowing his charge and share in her tough times as well as the good. a leader should also say what is important and then follow through. A leader should read widely on many subjects, listen well to others and seek their council, and take time to think in order to increase his wisdom. Thus it is essential to improve one's own character. He must realize that having courage means not only taking risks but having the courage to do what is morally or ethically right. A leader must be sincere and humane in his dealings with subordinates, and when he must enforce discipline, it should be done in a manner that is humane consistent and fair. The best way to prove one is a leader---to show character---is not to talk about it, but set the example. Leading by example means to lead not primarily with words but by action. Rules, and orders are important, yet they must be followed and supported by actions that are consistent for orders to be meaningful. Nothing sends a clearer truer message to a charge about her Dominant/Leader than his behavior. The dominant/leader is responsible for everything that happens, whether to the submissive, or the relationship. If there are problems the dominant/leader must first look within himself to see if there is something that he has done incorrectly, then look at the charge that report directly to him. The strenghts and weaknesses of any relationship or organization flows from the top down. Communicating wants and strategies effectively is important so that the charge will be able to carry it out even in the leaders absence,by knowing his intent. To help her stay within [arameters, one must assign clear and distinct tasks, then select the right ways to achieve those assignments. Empower her within limits so that she can respond as circumstances dictates. As one gets to know his charge, one will find the best ways to motivate her and will use those according to her abilities Finally leaders must implement mechanisms to make the relationship stronger. If he does so the charge will gladly follow. Sun Tzu calls this "moral influence"
By moral influence I mean that which causes people to be in harmony with their leaders, so that they will accompany them in life and unto death without fear of mortal peril. (I.4)
